By focusing on hiring and retaining specialist nurses and support staff, Cuan Mhuire will improve care quality and success rates in rehabilitation, offering hope to recovering individuals and their families.

Our Philanthropic Objectives - €4.55M investment needed to provide the expert nursing services required over the next 5 years:

• Attract and Retain Specialist Nurses Nationwide. Detoxification and medical support provided by specialist nurses during the first two weeks of the alcohol and drug programmes are crucial first steps to a resident’s progression to rehabilitation, recovery, transition, and return to everyday life. Ireland currently faces a critical shortage of nurses, affecting the delivery of essential services at Cuan Mhuire. This shortage strains the capacity of care for individuals starting their recovery. By focusing on hiring and retaining specialist nurses and support staff, Cuan Mhuire will improve care quality and success rates in rehabilitation, offering hope to recovering individuals and their families. Recruit four additional nurses, to fill the required complement of 28 nursing staff, across the five treatment centres nationwide, and retain and prevent ongoing staff churn of by providing parity of employment conditions for those who come to serve Cuan Mhuire’s community. (€2.75M)
• Recruit Dedicated Detox Nurses for the Women’s Centre in Athy. Currently the new women’s detox unit in Athy is not operational due to the need for dedicated nurses. We aim to hire six Full Time Equivalents. (€1.8M)

The national shortage of qualified addiction counsellors creates a critical bottleneck in addressing the challenges of recovery.

Our Philanthropic Objectives - A €9.5 Million investment needed to train and retain the Addiction Counsellors required over next 5 years

• In response, Cuan Mhuire has formed a partnership with Munster Technological University (MTU) to provide degree courses in addiction counselling to twenty students each year. Graduates live on-site, study, and gain real-life experience while obtaining their degree in addiction counselling. They emerge uniquely equipped to provide high-quality care within Cuan Mhuire and other services nationwide. The Galilee Centre requires urgent renovation and extension of student accommodation to facilitate the enrolment of student counsellors. This critical investment will cost €1.7M over the next 5 years.
• Cuan Mhuire also needs to recruit 18 additional counsellors to ensure the rehabilitation and aftercare services are appropriately staffed across its five treatment centres and seven transition houses to support those seeking recovery at a cost of €7.8M.

• While many of our centres have seen improvements, some now require urgent upgrades, repairs, and expansions to meet contemporary needs. By investing €5.95 million into our network of treatment and transition centres, we're not only ensuring compliance with modern standards and regulations, but also striving to make these spaces welcoming and supportive for the 2,300+ individuals we serve annually.
• This investment is crucial for providing an environment conducive to recovery and reintegration. Our commitment is to create safe spaces that offer peace, dignity, and the opportunity for healing and personal growth. We envision our centres as havens for restoring hope, empowering every individual with the foundation for a successful reintegration into society and normal life. This financial dedication underscores our holistic approach. It highlights the well-being of everyone in our care as our top priority.

Our Philanthropic Objectives - A €1Million investment needed to develop a Central Services Support Team to provide additional resources dedicated to each Cuan Mhuire Treatment Centre and Transition House.
